The Future Of FREE TV?

What is the future of free TV? Well, if it's left to the FCC, congress, CTIA, CEA, pay TV providers and wireless providers, it's not going to get any better, and it can only get worse. In the middle of the biggest economic crises since the Great Depression, these forces would like nothing more than to do away with free TV.Why? Money. They want you to PAY for TV and wireless broadband, and the FCC is staffed by lawyers looking to be hired by these industries once their appointments at the FCC come to an end.

Tell Congress to protect free, local television's ability to innovate and provide the news, emergency information and entertainment you expect and deserve.

  1. It is un-american to take away TV. The GOV needs to keep things status-quo. The money the GOV would make would be short-lived!

  2. @ Larry Soule:
The proceeds from the spectrum auction plan are greatly over estimated, and would indeed be a one-time income. There are far better ways to balance the budget than taking away TV from working class America and selling the spectrum to corporations who will charge high prices for access to others content, and you will probably have to pay for that content going forward. So, if you're one of the "cable cutters" that uses streaming video, you will be paying twice for your content.

As much as we are annoyed by commercials on broadcast TV, it pays the bills and keeps free TV FREE. And, in case you haven't noticed, pay TV has as many commercials as FREE TV, and the content isn't much different. In fact, the majority of the highest rated TV shows are free!
